Elder Vernon Allen Chairman 2018 Annual Events

As the birthday of one of Americas most revered churches prepare to celebrate 40 years of service to humanity, today was the kick off for the many events that will
take place during 2018 to remember the past and to reflect on the present and prepare for the future. Bishop Toris T. Young appointed Elder Vernon Allen to lead all planning and organizational efforts to make GBCI 40 years the most memorable we have seen thus far. To start the
40-year annual celebration we will begin with the hosting of special events to salute Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.`s contributions to history and the powerful legacy of civil rights, activism and unity he left behind of which Greater Bibleway Church International is a recipient of. Bishop Young said that Dr. King is one of the most influential and empowering American heroes, King promoted social change through non-violence and sought to unify people through education, discussion, and peaceful action. Leading up to his birthday, Monday January 15, 2018 there are many ways we will honor his legacy while honoring the history and heritage of Greater Bibleway Church International, founded in 1978 as Bible Way Baptist Church and started out in the home of its founders and growing from a house church to now being a leader around the world, meeting needs of people no matter who they are. We will Celebrate freedom, liberty and the legacy of Greater Bibleway Church International and what better way to start by remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a special Celebration on January 15, 2018, @ Greater Bibleway Church International, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta. @ 8:00 AM CST we will begin with a prayer breakfast at the New Orleans Marriott Canal Street. The theme for this year's King day activities "The Urgency Of Now," this current season has manifested an unease with our domestic and international social condition, politics, and economy. And a return to a past era of intolerance and despair has given voice to some of our nation`s worst instincts. And yet, we must continue to speak to those things that undergird our determination to nourish that which is the best in the human personality. For, "the arch of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice," a justice that marks a beloved community. Bishop Young said that " the fear of death never affected Dr. King's commitment and it should not affect our commitment today. Elder Vernon Allen quote: " The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy," And thus we will strive to make 2018 As we celebrate 40 years of rich history of Greater Bibleway Church International and the 50th year since Dr. Kings assassination the best yet as far as organization and presentation.
